Over the years the team at Buzzfeed has dipped their toes into the world of creating some medical videos. I have actually appeared in some of them, but today I wanted to take a look at what videos they’ve put out and see how accurate they are. A lot of their interviews with med students and nurses yield some very true stories and experiences of what it’s like to study medicine! Some of their other videos, such as how to fight off a cold… not so much. Today we’re debunking miracle cures like Apple Cider Vinegar, the value of a good nasal spray, how much coffee med students drink, and some nightmares that actual nurses have had to endure.

I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

About that last one, there's been a growing trend at least in my country (Canada) that unless a child or adult are showing signs of delirium or having trouble acting normal, that you SHOULDN'T give meds to lower a fever. Unless it's in the danger zone of course, then you have no choice. You will just prolong the infection or the time it takes to get better.

Actually, vitamin c is thermolabile, so adding lemon to a hot drink is pretty much useless.

I'm newish to your channel. I noticed you threw a bunch of "X" down on apple cider vinegar. Full disclosure, I never looked into that at all. But a few of my friends swear by it. I'm curious why you 86ed it right off the bat. Is it witch doctor medicine? lol

I grew to like honey just sliding down my hurt throat when I got corona and my neck was killing me. Also Priznitz helped with sore throat, its simmilar to that wet sock/dry sock in this video. Its a cold wet towel wrapped around your neck wrapped by dry warm towel (or a scarf or anything comfy) and then you lay in it, sleep in it, and it calms your neck and helps you reduce the coughing. We actually have a regular spa that specifies in Priznitz method here in Czech republic

The worst smell I've ever experienced was my first year working in an OR, it was a circumcision on a 98 year old double amputee who had a SERIOUS infection under his foreskin. That was worse than any pressure wound or gangrenous wound I've ever experienced. And I've experienced A LOT of heavily infected wounds. On an unrelated note, Apple cider vinegar with honey and lemon has improved my energy and regular bowel function tremendously. I'm now a believer in apple cider vinegar. Just taking that alone got rid of SOOO much bloatedness in my belly and with a probiotic vitamin it FINALLY made my bowel movements regular (i was going like 3+ WEEKS without one).

But in German (Austrian German to be specific) where med students learn about a disease and be like "oh well, I have had that and that. I was definitely suffering from this"! It is like self-fulfilling prophecy =D

I'm proud to say I've never unsuccessfully self-diagnosed so far. But I also have to add that it's due to knowing my own body to an extreme, due to being sick so much, that I had gone through almost everything. I'm so good at this that I don't need a thermometer or a BP machine anymore, as I can say with a 0.5°C and 10 points accuracy what my body temperature and blood pressure are. I can even tell someone else what's their temperature, just by how they're feeling, and base upon that what type of infection they might be having. I remember the dumbfounded look on my GP's face when I told her my right kidney hurts like hell, and she responded with "you can't know something you've never experienced before". It was a long conversation before she sent me to get a sonogram... I could barely walk from the pain, and I couldn't stand straight. She suggested I might have hepatitis before she sent me up for a checkup... That's the reason I self-diagnose - professional incompetence in the field. I can also smell different phases of diabetes on people, and know a condition by the type of pulse. I'm pretty good at this, though I'm in a different field. Personal favorite home remedies: gargle with honey/lukewarm water 50/50 for sore throat. Perfect for pain relief. And for tonsillitis - gargle with some coke - cleans off the throat deposits. Cough? Acacia tree pods - the long curved ugly dark kind - boil 2-3 into 1 l of water, add some honey and lemon, drink one coffee cup 3 times a day before your meals. Great for bronchitis to cool off the cough. God, that saved me so many times.

my mum used to spread some vaporub on the soles of my feet whenever i got sick and couldnt sleep at night because i was just coughing the entire time. i dont know about the fever but it REALLY helped ease the night coughs for a decent amount of time, enough to fall asleep at least. shed also put socks on my feet after the vaporub, but i usually took them off, because what sort of psychopath likes sleeping with socks? the socks do help when actually walking around with vaporub under your feet though. (its technically the same sort of thing, but you know, doesnt attract fungi like moisture does, and i bet feels a lot more comfortable, like wet socks vs just some vicks)
